Bucky?! Who the hell's Bucky? - by dchanberry (SFW)

Why this piece is awesome: This is a Captain America/Star Wars: The Force Awakens crossover. The artist herself noted, "I kept thinking about Star Wars AU and had to add Bucky as a storm trooper, because guess who else broke their conditioning and escaped an evil organization?", which perfectly sums up why I think this piece works. I also love the casting of Steve as a Jedi, and Tony as a Resistance pilot.

I mean, there were a lot of Wildstorm books. And remember I said it was a pirate ship? The world-building was all over the place. I had to sit down and write a fucking cosmology for this project. Jim Lee made me invent 12,000 years of intergalactic history and I will never forgive him. -- Warren Ellis

According to Kodansha Comics, this is a series for those who are fans of Steven Universe, so there you go.
Frankly, I say you'll probably like this if you like some abstract stuff.

The first chapter is available to read for free, thus the amount of pages below. Feel free to check them out on the site here though.

I'm trying to remember what I did yesterday, and my mind is going blank. Let's see... We made a trip out to Plum Market in the evening because Cordelia really, really wanted to. Scott and Cordelia made turkey meatballs that came out reasonably well.

This morning, I woke up to find that I'd reached 90 days on holding a portal in Ingress. That's a badge increment. The next one is at 150 days and is highly unlikely. Of course, getting to 90 days surprised me. The Guardian badge is one of those that one can only hope will happen. I capture portals and keep recharging them as long as I still own them. Before this, the longest I'd held anything was 85 days (and I was cranky when that one went down because I'd started thinking it would last).

Scott had both days off this weekend. He's expecting to work next weekend but says he should be able to make sure he works Sunday. Saturday is a big Ingress event, called an Anomaly, here in Ann Arbor, and we've signed up for it as it's likely to be our only opportunity to participate in such a thing. I'm a little worried about my ability to participate fully since it's about four hours of constant walking. I specifically told them that I'm only good for an hour and that at a slow pace. I guess we'll see.

The hard part is trying to get the suggested in-game equipment for the Anomaly. A couple of local people who play a lot more than we do are helping us, but there's also the problem of what to do with the stuff we want to keep that we won't have room for.

Yesterday, our kitchen sink backed up. Scott spent a good bit of time getting it unclogged. He's a little freaked because he can't explain what he found which was a flaky, black build up rather than a wad of grease or something similar. He couldn't identify the substance at all. At least we can now run the dishwasher.

Tomorrow's going to be busy. Cordelia's high school registration will happen in the afternoon, and I need to make sure we get there on time. Cordelia's decidedly unenthusiastic about the whole thing.

DCEU exchange was in and complete on time. I got an extension, I would have liked to write more. I might still add another chapter.

Rarepairings is written and posted, but is being re-drafted due to my not liking the way the current ending plays out.

Genex assignments have a couple of notes, but no actual words.

Just put my name down for Remix Madness. Unlikely as always, but we'll see. May or may not get involved.

Sedoretu Promptfest has a few couplets, but nothing concrete: this will probably fail, but I'd kind of like to try it all the same.

Haven't even looked at AU Exchange or Crossovering, and have given Franzi and Gecko's Friends Exchange a quick lookover but nothing more.

I haven't responded for marvel Bang: no time, no inspiration, no brain.

Otherwise I think it's quiet until Yuletide/Santa set of exchanges, which will pop up just as I've completed these...

Contemplating joining [community profile] wip_amnesty but not sure it's worth it. I mean, yes, the satisfaction of posting stories (and I have many many WIP), but I guess I can do that on AO3 and a few people will take a chance on reading it anyway...

Wonder Woman visits Jerry Lewis (march 1970)

Once upon a time, DC comics understood that comics don't have to be always serious grimdark heavy drama involving lots of gratuitous violence and rape. That was a good thing, but the less serious comics that DC put out weren't always worthwhile. Today it seemed appropriate to post 8/23 pages from issue 117 of the mercifully forgotten "The Adventures of Jerry Lewis" comic, an issue worthy of note today only because it guest starred Wonder Woman in her "mod" phase.

JerryLewis_117_00

gratuitous sexism and unfunny jokes ahoy )

The past was a different country, one in which it was possible for there to be over 100 issues of a Jerry Lewis comic.

ETA: the last page includes a statement of management and circulation. in 1970, "The Adventures of Jerry Lewis" was selling 175,000 copies every month. Do you think maybe, just maybe, going after ever more grimdark crossover events might have been a mistake on DC's part?

Giving this the crack tag, I guess? And the misogyny tag, because Jerry Lewis.

Hey folks, it's been a busy week. Shout out to all the counter-protests that have seen huge turnouts where neo-nazi's have tried to get their message out. We have a lot of links and resources this week.

One bit of news is that our tag guru [personal profile] redbird is going to have limited internet time for the next week or so. That means it may take a bit longer than the usual super-speedy service for your posts to be tagged and new tags added. (Remember: you can always add existing tags to your posts yourselves.)

Housekeeping (the usual stuff)
Reminder that we have a suggestion post if there’s a topic that you’d like to see discussed but would like to ask the mods to look into. This can be anything from general information, or a how-to-do-a-thing, or something you may want to discuss as a community. Folks are welcome to post directly to the comm as always, but if you’re not comfortable/don’t have spoons, we can help too.

As we don't always get the time to pull things out of the suggestions post into their own separate posts, it may be worth checking every week (or tracking the post) to see if there's any new information you're interested in.

Also if you need help with tags, PM [personal profile] redbird, who is our tag guru.

I put on my "Nasty Woman" shirt and hiking boots and went to the Dallas Against White Supremacy protest today. I made a signed that said, "How Long Until America's Promise of Equality Includes All People And Not Just Rich White Men?" I suck at sign making, and I'm too tired to upload pics, so pretend it looked really cool. This was a different experience than the Rally for Women's Rights. For one thing it was in Dallas, not Fort Worth, and I'm more comfortable with Fort Worth even though I worked in downtown Dallas 10 years ago. Still, I didn't want to deal with parking so I took the train down. When I got on the train a white man asked to see my sign. I wasn't sure if he was anti-racist or wanting to stir something up but I showed it to him. As I was another white man wearing an Obama shirt came on the train also going to the protest. Sure enough, the first white man started saying inflammatory things. I sat down and put my nose in a book, while Obama shirt kept saying that this was a peaceful, non violent movement. On the next station a group of black women got on the train, and a different person started telling everyone to be quiet and peaceful. I'm not sure if he was there to monitor the trains for such activities or just wanted to break things up, but it worked. Rest of the trip was peaceful.

Got off the train, started walking to the protest at city hall. There was a racist protest also going on by the confederate statues. During the Rally for Women's Rights, once I started seeing people with signs I felt relief and knew I was at the right place. Here? I started seeing a bunch of white people, and I wasn't sure if they were there to demonstrate for white supremacy or if they were there to demonstrate for equality! And with my Nasty Woman shirt and sign, it felt like a target. And I started getting hella nervous. But then it struck me that this must be what POC color through every day.

At first I came to the area where the confederate statues were. Well, there was one person with a swastika and another with a stupid "Make America Great Hat" and they were surrounded by people telling them that what they were doing was hateful. I started seeing people with the right kinds of signs, Make Love Not War, etc, and followed them to where the rally was.

Police presence was also strong here, and they were armed. Helicopters were circling. And I spotted a sniper on the roof of city hall. Did not have this at the Rally for Women's Rights.

Once again, I prefer marches to rallies. There's something powerful about marching with people, rallies you just walk around aimlessly and look at people's signs. Still, I wish turn out had been greater. And I couldn't even hear a damn word of what the speakers were saying. Though there was an effigy of the Racist in Chief, and I flipped him the bird, which was so cathartic. Still, I can't stay silent and let fascism grip this country. Like I said, racism is nothing new, but the fact that we are debating whether or not Nazi are evil just confounds me to no end! So I'm glad I went. I hope all this makes a difference.

Continuing Harvey Dent's 75th anniversary I'm going to be posting a few comics featuring Two-Face by Greg Rucka. I don't know if I'd call him the definitive writer for the character but he gets his mindset and has written for him on several occasions. This was first try at the bat so to speak.
