I see your point, and it's true; I know women before me have done without any books and women after me won't need books, either. It's just been far more helpful to have something around that answers my nagging questions so that I'm not bothering the doctor every day (Weird cramps? Perpetually stuffy nose? Strange marks on the body? IS THIS NORMAL?!)
As for parenting books, everyone and their dog has been recommending them. So I guess we'll burn that bridge when we come to it. ;p
