Miyazaki @ Comic-Con!

retsuko: (squee!)
I've been trying to confirm this, but since the L.A. Times is a pretty reputable source, I'm going to squee about it anyway, even though I don't yet see it listed on the Comic Con website: Hayao Miyazaki is supposed to be at Comic Con to promote his latest film!

This presents a quandary, which is this: I am almost 100% sure he'll be slotted into a Hall H spot, and my resolution this year was to not attend that part of the Con anymore (for a variety of reasons, some which have to do with laziness--I'm not willing to camp out overnight to get a good seat--and some of which have to do with being the midst of far too many people). If he's in Ballroom 20 (which seats 1,500-2,000 people instead of Hall H's 7,500), I will be there. But if he's in Hall H... argh. That's a tough choice. On one hand, here is someone I have abiding respect for, who I am unlikely to ever be in the same room with again; on the other hand, it's not exactly a dinner party where we're hanging out and chatting. Up until I read this, my Comic Con priorities for this year were to hear Charles Vess and Hope Larson speak. Now, I'm not sure whether they're realigning or not. Neither Vess nor Larson, despite being guests of honor, is at all likely to have an event in Hall H, and the venue will likely be very intimate, with lots of chances for me to work up my courage to ask questions. Hall H is cut-throat and rather daunting.

Internal Monologue:
A: But it's Miyazaki!
B: But this new film is supposed to be very small-child-oriented, and the English dub cast is bland to the max.
A: But it's Miyazaki!
B: Do you really want to see the fire marshall's face again?
A: But...
B: Twice, and not looking happy either time?
A: ... But it's Miyazaki!

Oh, well. Don't have to make any decisions right now! :)
