Sleepy Hollow: The One That Isn't "Fallen"

* I love the twist on the classic "the call is coming from inside the house" trope.

* Jenny really is growing on me as a character. I love her internal conflict over wanting to help Macy, her shame over her possession, and her actions to help Abbie. I think she may become my favorite character at this rate.

* Good old salt. So useful.

* And the call from inside the house trope continues, in the creepiest way possible. Yikes.

* I think this is the first time we've ever seen the characters really fail at the worst and most important juncture. As horrible as it is, it's kind of a relief to know this will happen and the show will go on.

* Holy crap, this is the most horrific they've ever gone. Jebus! Still cheese-o, of course, but shocking nonetheless.

* I think my new OTP for this show is Ichabod/Abbie/Jenny/awesome.

* the lamp looks more like a cheese grater than a destroyer of evil.

* Is this the Michigan Militia? In any case, I think Crane may be the best equipped to dialogue with a bunch of conspiracy theory survivalist gun nuts. Where's Jenny during the scene? Oh, being all BAMF, I see.

* HOLY CRAP: "seven years ago, I invaded you." D:

* Holy crap AGAIN! That was some majorly crazy shit!

It looks like I will have Katrina! I can only hope that all the fandom speculation is wrong, and that Katrina isn't Evilly Evil and Evilling Up The Scenery. Because that would be far too easy, and the wrong kind of cliche that I expect from this show.

*sigh* Where is the fandom speculating this? I wrote about it in my Really Long Meta that sunk without a trace, and why I thought it was bad storytelling, but as usual I have no idea where the conversations are going on -- if they *are* going on and this isn't all being expressed in Tumblr gifs. ;-) (Sorry, this isn't me being sulky but genuinely looking and not finding. Well, I'm finding in AO3 comments, where it seems like Katrina's inadequacies are just Known Truth.)

God forbid we should like multiple female characters on the same show. ;-)

After last night, with the "I trusted you" in the promos, the Tumblr "Sleepy Hollow" tag has a bunch of people insisting he was talking to Katrina and saying he should never trust her. Also, the Katrina hate is kind of strong over there. Look, I love Jenny and Abbie, and I love that they're forging a connection, and that Irving is forging a connection with his emotionally distant family, and I think that those connections are going to be the real key to defeating the apocalypse. But I also think that Ichabod needs a connection to his family, and also hating on one lead woman and putting the other lead on a pedestal is some serious misogyny that fandom has a long history of doing and it annoys the ever-loving hell out of me.

I basically can't touch the Sleepy Hollow tag on Tumblr. I really, really can't. There's some great stuff about Jenny and Abbie, but it hits me like a slap (metaphorically speaking) when I read the Katrina hate. I would feel the same way were there to be Katrina love and Jenny and/or Abbie hate. The discussion isn't too in depth, though.

That's one of the reasons I tiptoe around over there and don't post. I find myself protective of Katrina because she's the subject of so many attacks; I feel like the hate is turning me into a defender, but what's the point? Gifs do not make a serious discussion.

I am genuinely and honestly glad that Abbie and Jenny get so much love from the fandom, because when the show started airing I was a little worried. That said, I think that the progress we have made in fandom at not demonizing women could be expanded a little further, to include not demonizing women who aren't your preferred woman/women on the show.

boosette is going to be writing a story where Katrina is the one who wakes up in the twenty-first century, and Ichabod is stuck in purgatory and Katrina has to work with Abbie. I think you would be very interested in her ideas and her story (I know I'm honestly a little desperate for the first part), and I think also that you and she would find yourself with similar fandom interests more generally.

I'm sorry to hear that Katrina is so reviled on Tumblr. I only look at Gingerhaze's stuff, so I really have no idea what the general mood is. :(

So, if not Katrina, who *is* Crane lamenting that he trusted? My bets are on Irving (since he came so close to handing over the Bible) or possibly Abbie, if Moloch manipulates it to appear as if she's abandoned him (Crane.) I'm also making bets with myself over just how bad the cliffhanger will be: will it be Agent-Mulder-in-a-burning-train-car-with-smallpox-infected-alien-corpses-now-wait-four-whole-months-damn-you-Chris-Carter level bad? Or just the-Doctor-has-regenerated-why-can't-we-have-more-adventures-NOW level bad?

As to Ichabod lamenting he trusted someone, I think Henry, the Sin Eater played by John Noble, may have been overwhelmed by the sin he took from others. John Noble is AMAZING at shifting between harmless and dark/creepy, so I hope that the writers take advantage of that. Honestly, if they ended up killing off Bram-as-Death, John Noble would make a chilling incarnation of Death himself.

Jenny racked up some major BAMF points this episode, didn't she? And I loved the Jenny & Corbin backstory.

Not a good episode for shipping her with Irving, though -- I don't think he and Cynthia are done yet.

I definitely don't think Irving and Cynthia are done, not by a long shot. I actually really liked the dialogue between them, even though it was brief; Cynthia had such sympathy for Irving, but clearly had no idea how to help him, and I thought that was a meaningful, good addition to the plot (and a nice counterpoint to the possession scenes.)

Although my husband pointed out that Jenny really wouldn't be able to show off her marksmanship (markswomanship?) wiht an M-16, it certainly did look very BAMF. :D
