OK, I love to hate Ben, and I hate to love him, but what a character, what a villain. The little smirk on his face after he manipulated Sayid into becoming his personal assassin? Priceless. (For everything else, there's MasterCharacter.)

* So now we know that Ben is NOT one of the Oceanic Six. (Or Eight.) And that means that Kate, Jack, Aaron, Sun, Sayid, and Hurley are the six... but if you don't count Aaron because he's a baby, then who's #6?!

* Why can't Ben kill Whidmore? I mean, seriously, why not? I'm all for James Bond-esque sneakery, but, yeesh, if you break into a guy's Penthouse and there's absolutely no evidence of any other security, you'd think you could go ahead and take some kind of a shot. [livejournal.com profile] yebisu9 was joking that they have twin heart implants from when they were newborn twins, the kind where if one heart stops, the other heart stops, too. And we were snickering over this, and then I thought... hey... wait a minute! Please, Lost writers, do not let this cheesey theory be true!

* I'm sorry to say this, but Alex's death strengthens my conviction that Rousseau is not dead at all. Her eventual return to the story and knowledge of what has transpired will be marked by an even greater departure from sanity, I am sure. :(

* Wow, Sawyer! That was gutsy! I know you're going to die a heroic death, but don't do crazy things just yet, OK? I'd like you to stick around a little longer!

* Jack is sick?! Who cares?! Kate is useless?! Who cares?! @_@;;

* And, once again, Sayid proves his awesome kickass skills, even in the face of grief. At least now we know how he came to be Ben's mercenary.

Without spoiling anything, I can say that I love how all the mundane things in this episode, like the game of Risk, the phone ringing, and the doorbell, were suddenly filled with menace. One of the things I love about this show, besides the twists and turns, is how, against the backdrop of Island foliage and sabotage, nothing is what it seems--especially that which is most familiar to us, as viewers.

Ha!! I can't believe I didn't think of the 'neither can live' line :) I'm still trying to puzzle out that scene. I want to think that Ben can't kill Widmore for some reason beyond the fact that it's one of the rules of their game.

And other random notes -

- According to the network teasers, Aaron is being counted as one of the Oceanic Six. So it's Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid, Sun, and Aaron.

- I was just loving Sawyer this episode. I mean, I do usually, but even more :)

- Mmmm, kickass Sayid ;) And that little smile from Ben was...*shudder* I still think that Ben was the one who arranged for Nadia's death. I'm not sure how he did it, but I think he did.

- I am SO WITH YOU about not caring about Jack In Peril OMG!!! next week. Jack. Yawn. Get back to Desmond and Sayid on the boat!

I'm a little put off by the whole "gentlemen's game" story... I mean, I just hope there's some bigger purpose than that. If it turns out that their families have feuded over possession of Island since the original Black Rock, then, OK, whatever, I guess. But if turns out that Whidmore and Ben were the bestest of friends until they learned of a secret Island and wanted to exploit its mysterious powers... gah, just typing it out makes my head hurt. :[ I hope it's not something as simplistic and cliched as that.

Yeah, definitely, get back to the boat! I want to hear the captain's reaction to Michael's SOOPER SEKRIT revealed!

JUST WATCHED THIS. And I can't believe my eyes.

Okay, can Sayid not get a break? Every woman he truly loves gets to die before his eyes, but I'm sure it's because he's not cut out to be a family man. But, I liked Nadia. I loved having that bit of romance from Sayid. Anyways.

WTH with Jake and Kate? Who cares about their flirting? They haven't been friends for a long time, and now Jack seems to have developed appendicitis and no one can operate on him. *shrug* Wah- who cares?

Ben is amazing. I don't like him, but you have to give him credit.

And, speaking of amazing- they killed off 3 extraneous characters in the Sawyer-versus-Marines shoot-out. Huzzah!

I'm liking Daniel less and less. It's as if he has a conscience but just won't use it. Or, he's scared of the redheaded anthropologist that she'll kick the shit out of him.

Gah! So much information that is unclear. ;_;

Re: J/K, yeah, super-mega-what-eva.

Re: Ben. Damn, he is indeed amazing! I cannot stand him and yet I cannot look away. Just stepping back from the show, and seeing how he's manipulating everyone...GAH! Best TV villain, hands down, better than Cancer Man on the X-Files.

Re: Daniel. I keep waiting for him to explain his deal. But I've read interview with the writers/producers and they were lamenting not being to tell his story until next season. *grumble*

I really, really liked the Daniel time-travel episode. And I think he has good intentions. I want to know more about this man, and I'm sad it won't come along until next season. ;_;

Ben is fricking amazing, and I was actually surprised that he cared about Alex and mourned over her. I didn't think he had much attachment... since he had such a rough childhood himself. *shrug* But aren't all the worst baddies suffering from having been weaned too early? :)

I'm tempted to re-watch this season, because I fear I'm missing good tidbits.
